Citizen Signature Grand Classic Automatic
Citizen has released the automatic mechanical models to their Signature Collection. These models were originally showcased at Basel 2012, although only those at the convention were allowed to see them. Does that make any sense? Bring a new model to the biggest watch show of the year and nobody's allowed to share pictures. Whatever.
Anyway my initial impression of the covert pictures I did see was not strong. I have to say with better pictures I like these a lot. Lots of nice detailing.
NB0040-58A features a white dial with blue hands and NB0040-58E has a black dial with chrome hands. A forum friend recently picked up the black model and was very impressed.
Inside beats the Miyota 9010 which beats at 28,800 beats per hour. For the arithmetic challenged that 8 beats per second which is the same beat rate of the ETA2824 and is 2 beats per second faster than nearly every current Japanese movement. The result of the faster beat rate is to provide a smoother sweeping second hand.
Like all Citizen Signature models the movement is hand assembled and the case and bracelet are hand finished. In addition the crystal has a dual anti-reflective coating making it nearly invisible.
The watch is also larger than the typical Japanese dress style with a case diameter of 42mm and a lug width of 22mm. This might be too large for my liking, but its good to know the big boys can have something more sophisticated than oversized divers.
Full retail on these is $995 but if you ask nicely I'm sure you can pay less than that.
Thanks to AZFT for the pictures. Please check out their blog for lots more by clicking HERE.
